I put the villain in villainele

Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Pious adherents to word and to letter,
You pray with mouth-opened cries and litanies.

Your heterodox tenets and prescribed decrees.
May satisfy Moses but not for the better.
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Swear not by the temple, nor by its treasuries,
Do not go by ‘Rabbi’, you are not ‘Master’.
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Ecclesiastical princes and royalties,
You may sink like a stone along with your neck fetter.
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

We three rule the mountains and silence the seas,
We see your hearts, we know your cups’ lackluster.
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
You know their precepts, you know their decrees.
If of Sabbath and man, God prefers the latter,
Then take straight to Him and bypass these jockeys.
